Hormone imBalance

Hormones are the major messengers of our bodies. They run the show when it comes to our reproduction, stress response, sleep and wake cycle, digestion, metabolism and almost every major activity. The hormonal systems of our bodies are like a harmonious orchestra and they function all beautifully when they are in balance. Unfortunately, many factors both internal and external affect this balance and many women suffer from the effects of imbalanced hormones. There are sex hormones as well as many other important hormones in the body including the thyroid hormones and the adrenal hormones.

Irregular Cycles & PMS

One of the most common forms of hormonal imbalance shows up as irregular cycles, PMS, or painful periods. Many of my patients report painful and heavy periods, or cycles that only come once in a while. The root causes for this are often multi-factorial and different in every woman. I am able to target each of my patient's specific imbalances with natural medicine and lifestyle changes, bringing relief, balance, and joy around being a woman!

Adrenal Dysregulation

The adrenals are two little organs that sit on top of your kidneys. They are responsible for producing your stress hormones, such as cortisol and epinephrine, a few other important hormones for fluid regulation, and some sex hormones, such as estrogen and testosterone. When the main hormone, cortisol, is imbalanced, it can lead to chronic fatigue, insomnia, irritability, anxiety, and many other seemingly "unexplainable" symptoms. The adrenals are incredibly important so I often test the adrenal function in my patients. I work with them to rebalance their adrenal health through diet, lifestyle, and botanical medicine.

Peri and Post-Menopause

Women who are undergoing peri-menopause or women who have not had a cycle in over a year (post-menopause), need to be supported in specific ways. During this time, the adrenal glands are the main source of estrogen production as the ovaries start to retire, so adrenal health becomes a major priority. With the drop of estrogens, women often experience symptoms such as hot flashes, irritability, vaginal dryness, and fatigue, and bone and heart health become a concern. I love working with this group of women to ensure that they don't develop preventable diseases and disorders at this time of their life. If appropriate I utilize bio-identical hormone replacement therapy to keep them energized, vibrant, and healthy!
